How to get to Catania:
There are daily flights landing in the two Sicilian international airports, from major Italian cities (Rome, Milan, Torino etc..), and in connection with fl ights departing from main European and International sites. The nearest international Catania airport is “Fontanarossa”, situated just 8 km far from the city center. Taxi and bus services insure transfers from the airport to the city center and vv. (see also the accommodation form). Falcone e Borsellino International Airport, close to Palermo, is about 155 km away from Catania.
Passport and Visa:
Every foreign visitor entering Italy must have a valid passport or travel document that credits his/her identity, that is considered valid for such aim by virtue of international treaties subscribed by Italy and not to be subject to prohibitions express. Visitors from countries whose citizens require visas should apply to the Italian Embassy or diplomatic mission in their own country.
Climate:
Catania, thanks to the mildness of its climate, can be visited all year long. Within just 19 km you can pass from the seaside to the 3000mt volcano. Therefore you can choose to live a volcanic ski season or a swimming and snorkeling holiday. The climate is temperate and mediterranean, with mild winters and hot and dry summers.
Currency, Bank:
Euro (€) is the currency in Italy. Foreign money exchange facilities are available at international airports as well as at banks in Catania.
Insurance:
Medical systems and facilities in Sicily as well as in the rest of Italy are well established so that you can expect to receive a high standard of medical treatment. However, medical services are not free for overseas visitors. All participants are strongly advised to take out their own private medical coverage and personal insurance for the duration of the conference and accompanying fi eld excursions.
